This Is one of the oldest villages In these valleys. It takes Its name from the Latin word "Ugello" or "Ocellum". Located In a prevailingly sunny area by the left side of the Chisone river, It Is perched at the foot of the Ciantiplagna-Pelvo rocky ground.
The area covered by the village, which Includes 4 smaller Inhabited areas besides the main centre, hosts two natural parks the Orsiera Rocciavr» and the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand (Salbertrand Big Wood).
Not to forget: the fairy-tale lake Laux with the homonymous small centre, the Pian dell’Alpe area, the San Pietro parish church, the San Bartolomeo church, the cereal mill, the murals, the minor fortresses at high altitude, (the Assietta route), the Balboutet village featuring a sundial didactic route.

 

Mountain pasture Tome

Sheep farming was and still Is a very Important and highly valued activity In these valleys. In fact we still produce rural and tasty cheeses: fresh milk turns Into delicious toume and toumin (fresh white paste cheeses), that you can buy directly at the mountain pastures and eat straight away with local tasty breadsticks, while drinking a nice glass of the typical wine of these valleys, the Ramiè.
